Electrolux sued by home insurer after leaky washing machine allegedly damaged residence

GRETNA – An international appliance manufacturer is being sued by a home insurer whose customer's home was allegedly damaged by a malfunctioning appliance.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, as real party in interest and subrogee of Randy and Kelly Pizani, filed suit against Electrolux Home Products Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb.1.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Company claims Electrolux Home Products Inc. produced a faulty appliance for the Pizanis that leaked when a pressure hose became disconnected from the machine. The plaintiff alleges the product’s defect resulted in significant damage to their customer's home.

The defendant is accused of providing a product unreasonably dangerous in construction and composition, providing a product unreasonably dangerous in design and not providing adequate warning about the dangerous product.

Damages in the amount of $9,300 plus the Pizanis’ insurance deductible of $720 are requested for the cost of the home repairs.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Company is represented by W. Ransom Pipes of Baton Rouge-based Hannah, Colvin & Pipes LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
