Apartment complex sued by woman who fell while visiting niece

GRETNA – A visitor to an apartment complex is suing its owners for injuries she claims to have received in a fall on the premises.

Denise Anthony filed suit against Bellemeade Apartments of Louisiana LLC and Evanston Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 20.

Anthony claims she was visiting her niece at Bellmeade Apartments located a 650 Belle Meade Blvd. in Harvey when she fell on the property. The plaintiff alleges she received severe injuries in the fall including to her neck, back and legs.

The defendant is accused of causing physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, mental expenses, loss of income and loss of earning capacity.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for failing to maintain a reasonably safe place for its tenants and their visitors, failing to take necessary measures to protect the safety of its tenants and visitors, failing to repair a hazardous area for an unreasonably long period of time, failing to properly maintain and supervise its premises, failing to warn its tenants and visitors of the danger and failing to take steps to avoid this incident.

Anthony is represented by J. Bart Kelly III of New Orleans-based Alvendia, Kelly & Demarest.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Walter J. Rothschild.
