GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing the local outlet of a national restaurant chain for injures he sustained in a stabbing on the premises.

Neville Orrett III filed suit against Ruba LLC (owner of the Metairie International House of Pancakes) in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Orrett claims he exited the International House of Pancakes located at 3400 S. I-10 Service Road in Metairie after he ate and paid for his meal and was called back into the restaurant by someone he thought was working there. The plaintiff alleges that he was attacked and stabbed by two people as he attempted to get in his car and leave. Orrett asserts that he received life threatening injuries in the incident including a severed artery in his neck, a head injury, a neck injury and injuries to his body as a whole.

The defendant is accused of failing to provide security for their patrons when they had knowledge of the frequency and similarity of prior incidents of crime on their premises, failing to provide security when the gravity of harm to the plaintiff and others was foreseeable and failing to provide security when the likelihood of crime was sufficiently foreseeable.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, emotional distress, mental anguish and anxiety.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
