GRETNA – A local bar is suing a Jefferson Parish man for property damage and damage to its reputation after he allegedly battered a bartender with a gun that he also tried to shoot at customers.
Colby Cocktails LLC filed suit against Jeffery J. Brondum in the 24th Judicial District Court on March. 11.
Colby Cocktails claims that at 2:30 a.m. on March 9, 2012, Brondum entered the bar with a gun and began to hit its bartender with it and also stomped on him when he fell to the floor. During the struggle the plaintiff claims that the defendant also broke a sink and numerous bottles of liquor.
Colby Cocktails asserts that when bar patrons restrained Brondum he attempted to fire the gun at them, but its clip had fallen out during the beating. The plaintiff claims that the defendant cost them hundreds of dollars because it had to close while law enforcement officers investigated the beating and due to loss of reputation after potential customers found out that the incident had occurred.
The defendant is accused of property damage, assault and battery and violation of state and local law.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for future lost revenues, damage to the plaintiff’s reputation, cost to repair the items damaged, cost to replace the broken bottles of liquor and out-of-pocket miscellaneous expenses.
Colby Cocktails is represented by Lisa A. Colby of Metairie-based Colby & Coleman.
The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
Case no. 724-699.
