GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing United Air Lines for injuries she claims to have received when the plane she was riding in experienced turbulence and she was thrown about the plane.
Gloria Serafin filed suit against United Air Lines Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on March. 20. Serafin claims she was a passenger aboard a United Air Lines jet on April 4, 2012 whent he plane suddenly dropped. The plaintiff alleges due to the turbulence a luggage compartment violently struck her head and she was thrown about the plane. Serafin asserts that there was no warning from the flight crew to take safety measures to protect themselves.
The defendant is accused of failing to warn, failing to keep the plane under control, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to exercise necessary caution and failing to act as a prudent and reasonable carrier.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical and pharmaceutical expenses, mental anguish, emotional trauma, loss of enjoyment of life and loss of future earning capacity.
Serafin is represented by attorney David J. Mitchell of New Orleans.
The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.
