Electrolux sued by home insurer over home fire

Howell

GRETNA – An insurance company is suing a clothes dryer manufacturer for a home fire its product allegedly caused.

ANPAC Louisiana Insurance Company and Mildred L. Baye Jr. filed suit against Electrolux Home Products in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 4.

ANPAC claims Baye owned a dryer that was manufactured by Electrolux. The plaintiff alleges the dryer was located at Baye’s home at 121 14th St. in Bridge City when it caught fire, which spread through the house and caused significant damage. Baye asserts that the fire was caused solely by the Electrolux dryer.

The defendant is accused of a defect in design that allowed lint to accumulate on a heater plate and ignite, a defect in the interior fan allowing it to fail or reverse its motion and bring the lint in contact with the heater plate and a defect on the design and manufacture of a rubber seal around the drum that allowed clothes within to come into contact with an ignition source.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for structural damages, contents damages, loss of use, inconvenience and loss of deductible.

ANPAC is represented by attorney Arthur H. Andrews of Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 725-579.
