GRETNA – A St. Tammany Parish woman is suing a Metairie restaurant after she allegedly bit into a piece of glass that was in a dish she ordered.
Carol Godwin filed suit against Margaret Y.Z. LLC, Café East Chinese Restaurant and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 10.
Godwin claims she was dining at the Café East Chinese Restaurant located at 4628 Rye St. in Metairie when she took a bite of her meal, heard a crack and felt a sharp pain in the right side of her mouth. The plaintiff alleges she realized she had bit into a piece of glass and immediately notified the defendant’s wait staff and management. Godwin asserts she was told by employees that she would receive a call from their insurer, but such a call never took place. The plaintiff alleges due to the incident she had to have a tooth removed and a prosthetic put in its place.
The defendant is accused of failing to serve uncontaminated food, failing to establish protective measures against the serving of contaminated food, failing to instill rules and regulations as set forth by the Louisiana Health Inspection Board, failing to properly inspect all food before serving and failing to properly train all employees in the prevention of serving contaminated food.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain, expenses, emotional upset and anxiety.
Godwin is represented by Scott A. Cannon of the Slidell-based Law Offices of Scott A. Cannon LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
Case no. 725-767.
