Blue Cross Blue Shield sued by local hospital for $85K in patient care

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish hospital is suing the health insurance agency of a woman to whom they provided costly care.

Omega Hospital LLC filed suit against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 7.

Omega Hospital claims that patient insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois incurred medical expenses over a five-day period in the amount of $85,563.32. The plaintiff alleges the defendant repaid healthcare at far lower rates than were requested. Omega Hospital asserts Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois representatives broke oral contracts with them and did not disclose a $7,000 out of network penalty.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount of $85,563.32 are sought by the plaintiff.

Omega Hospital is represented by attorney Paul A. Lea Jr. of Covington.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
