NEW ORLEANS - A Jefferson Parish man has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturers of his left hip implant claiming the medical device was dangerous and defective.

Gregory P. Cadella filed suit against Johnson & Johnson and DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. on Aug. 13 in federal court in New Orleans.

Cadella was implanted with DePuy Pinnacle Acetabular Metal on Metal Cup System in his left hip at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans on Nov. 2, 2010. He states that immediately following the surgery, he began to experience physical pain and anguish.  Due to his discomfort, Cadella had his left hip implant removed in August 2012.

The defendants are accused of designing an unreasonably dangerous and defective device and/or defective manufacturing and/or defective packaging and/or defective marketing, including failure to provide adequate warnings.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for physical pain, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of consortium, court costs, and attorney’s fees.

Cadella is represented by Michael C. Darnell and Edwin R. Murray of Murray, Darnell & Associates in New Orleans and Bruce L. Feingerts of Feingerts & Kelly, PLC in New Orleans.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan is assigned to the case.
