NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing after slipping and falling while visiting a patient in a Jefferson Parish hospital.

Tonitte Anderson filed suit against Ochsner Health Systems LLC, Ochsner Clinic Foundation and Elmwood Medical Center in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 2.

Anderson claims that she was visiting a patient at the Ochsner Elmood  facility located on Clearview Parkway in Jefferson when a fellow patient in the room spilled a liquid on the floor. The plaintiff claims that hospital staff was notified of the spill, but inadequately cleaned it up. Anderson asserts that she injured her left knee and right shoulder after slipping and falling on the wet floor.

The defendant is accused of failing to warn, failing to take appropriate steps to correct a hazard and failing to prevent a dangerous condition.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, humiliation, embarrassment, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, medical expenses and medical bills.

Anderson is represented by attorney Mark W. Smith of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 728-559.
