NEW ORLEANS – A subcontractor has filed suit against a contractor and a building owner over allegedly unpaid work.

MC Steele Inc. filed suit against M. Slayton Construction Inc. and The Family Center of Hope in the Civil District Court on July 29.

The plaintiff alleges that defendant M. Slayton subcontracted with the plaintiff for construction work on The Family Center’s building on Washington Avenue in New Orleans.

The plaintiff alleges that its company completed all the work on the project in a “good, timely, and workmanlike manner,” and yet is still owed $24,680 for its work under the subcontract. The plaintiff initially filed a statement of claim on Sept. 16, 2012, according to the suit.

The plaintiff alleges that as a result of M. Slayton’s breach of contract, plaintiff Steele has incurred, and continues to incur, significant costs and damages, including the value of all outstanding payments owed, increased costs and delays, loss of use of funds, interest and other damages.

The plaintiff seeks that Family Center be found liable along with with M. Slayton, and be ordered to pay Steele for all outstanding payments owed to Steele in connection with its work on the project.

The plaintiff is represented by H. Minor Pipes III of Barrasso Usdin Kupperman Freeman & Sarver LLC of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.
