NEW ORLEANS - After slipping and falling at a local Target store, a Jefferson Parish woman has filed a lawsuit against Target claiming the store failed to post warning signs about a liquid on the floor.

Joann Perry filed suit against Target Corp., ABC Employee and XYZ Insurance Co. on Aug. 9, 2013 in Jefferson Parish District Court. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on Sept. 20.

Perry was a customer at the Target store in Metairie on Aug. 13, 2012 when she slipped on a puddle of liquid and twisted her knee.

The defendants are accused of negligence for failing to post a lookout, failing to post a warning of the danger, failing to maintain safe premises, and for failure to warn of the possible danger.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for mental pain and anguish, physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings, disability, interest, and court costs.

Perry is represented by James L. Sheilds, Jr. of Sheilds Law Firm in Gretna.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan is assigned to the case.
