GRETNA – An elevator company and building owner are being sued by a woman who claims she was injured when a set of elevator doors closed on her.
Yvonne Dandridge filed suit against First Financial Insurance Company, Stewart Development LLC, Stirling Properties LLC and Carson Elevator LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 4.
Dandridge claims that as part of her job she visited the Heritage Plaza building located at 111 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie and that as she entered an elevator it and the door closed on her. The plaintiff alleges that when the door closed on her it did not immediately open. Dandridge asserts she suffered severe and debilitating injuries in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly install the elevator, failing to properly maintain and inspect elevator after its installation, failing to ensure the safety of the premises, failing to properly represent the danger of the elevator, failing to warn of the danger, failing to ensure all components of the elevator were in working condition and failing to take reasonable and prudent actions.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, pain and suffering, emotional distress, scarring and disfigurement.
