Seaman sues for spinal injury after steel plate allegedly dropped on him

GRETNA – A seaman is suing a marine business after he was allegedly injured in an incident in which a crane dropped a plate of steel on him.

Vaughn Moore filed suit against Ashland Marine LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 5.

Moore alleges that he was working aboard a vessel that was on water in Ascension Parish when a crane operator employed by Ashland Marine lowered a steel panel in the area where he was working and struck him with it. The plaintiff claims he incident has resulted in serious and permanent injury.

The defendant is accused of failing to exercise ordinary care under the circumstances, failing to properly flag the crane operator at the time of the accident and failing to warn of the dangers and failing to exercise due care to avoid exposing the plaintiff to harm.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for disabling physical and mental injuries, spine injuries, disability, lost earnings, impairment to earning capacity, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

Moore is represented by Franklin G. Shaw of Covington-based Leger & Shaw.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
