NEW ORLEANS – A mother who was attending parent-teacher conferences at her child’s school filed suit after she twisted her ankle on an uneven staircase.
Lindsay Viner filed suit against The International School of Louisiana and its insurance company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.
The suit states that on Sept. 26, 2012, the plaintiff was at The International School of Louisiana to attend parent-teacher conferences. She was exiting the school building by way of an outside stairwell when she allegedly twisted her ankle and fell on the last step of the stairs. The last step was allegedly uneven or poorly constructed, thereby creating a dangerous hazard which was unmarked and caused the plaintiff’s fall.
The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a safe stairwell, failing to properly mark a dangerous step, failing to warn invitees of an unreasonably dangerous condition upon the school grounds and being otherwise negligent.
The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anxiety and anguish, loss of wages and earnings and other damages.
Viner, of New Orleans, is representing herself pro se.
The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
