Seamen sues employer after marine accident

NEW ORLEANS – A seamen sued his employer after an on-board injury rendered him unfit to return to sea.

Larry Staples filed suit against Tidewater Marine LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Oct. 23.

The suit states that on June 14, 2012, the plaintiff was employed by the defendant and worked aboard the M/V Terrell Tide. On that date the plaintiff suffered an accident which resulted in serious painful injuries to his back and other parts of his body.

The defendant is accused of breaching its legally-imposed duty of reasonable care, failing to provide a reasonably safe place to work, failing to properly train and supervise plaintiff, creating and maintaining an unseaworthy vessel and being otherwise negligent.

The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages of physical pain, mental anguish, lost wages, physical disability and medical expenses.

As a result of the accident, the plaintiff was rendered unfit for duty and presently at the time of the suit, remained unfit and incapable of returning to sea, the suit claims.

The plaintiff is represented by Timothy J. Young of The Young Firm of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
