GRETNA – The mother of a child who allegedly suffered severe injuries after being burned by coffee served at the restaurant is suing.
Kaylyn Floyd on behalf of her minor child filed suit against Ruba III LLC, I-HOP, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and Alexander McKnight in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 20.
Floyd alleges that on Dec. 23, 2012 she was eating with her 10-month-old son at the International House of Pancakes at 3400 Williams Blvd. in Kenner. The plaintiff claims McKnight sat a hot cup of coffee down in front of her son and he was subsequently burned by it. Floyd asserts her son received burns and scarring to his neck, chest and chin.
The defendant is accused of negligently handling a hot coffee and failing to observe a child was at a table where a potentially dangerous hot product could do harm.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for burns, scars, physical pain and suffering, emotional pain and suffering, medical expenses and mental pain and anguish.
Floyd is represented by Thomas C. Cerullo of the Metairie-based the Law Firm of Thomas C. Cerullo.
The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
