Tenant who fell off ladder sues landlord

GRETNA – A resident of a condominium is suing her landlord after she was allegedly injured after falling off a ladder in her apartment.

Ashley Beauford filed suit against Ames Garden Estate LLC, Ames Garden Estates Limited Partnership, Warren Homes LLC and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 12.

Beauford claims that on Feb. 24, 2013 she was living at Ames Garden Estate located at 628 Freedom Court in Marrero and was climbing a ladder into the attic of her apartment when it gave out and she fell to the ground. The plaintiff alleges she was seriously injured in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep a premises safe, failing to keep the premises free of hazards, failing to warn of potential unsafe conditions, allowing residents to be on the premises around a dangerous condition that caused injuries, having knowledge of the hazard and failing to remove the hazard.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain, mental anguish, distress, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

Beauford is represented by Ron A. Austin of Harvey-based Ron Austin & Associates LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
