Bicyclist sues driver who allegedly ran her over

GRETNA – A woman who was bicycling to work claims she was injured when a car ran into her.

Linda D. Somarriba filed suit against USAA Casualty Insurance Company, Joseph M. Guillot, Airline Manhattan Investors LLC and Massachusetts Bay Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 7.

Somarriba alleges on March 9, 2013 she was riding her bike in the parking lot of the Goodyear Tires store located at 2701 Airline Drive in Metairie when Guillot pulled his car into the parking lot and ran her over. The plaintiff claims she received severe and disabling injuries in the accident.

The defendant is accused of failing to yield, operating a motor vehicle with wanton and reckless disregard, operating a motor vehicle in a manner to endanger others, failing to stop, failing to see what should have been seen and failing to take the last clear chance to avoid the accident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, inconvenience, mental anguish, medical bills and lost wages.

Somarriba is represented by attorney James B. Guest of Kenner.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.

Case no. 736-185.
