GRETNA – A student who claims a filing cabinet fell and knocked a ladder from beneath her while she was helping her teacher is suing the school.
Chenesha Coler filed suit against L.W. Higgins High School and Jefferson Parish School Board in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 9.
Coler alleges that she was a student at L.W. Higgins High School on March 11, 2013 and was filing paperwork for her teacher when a filing cabinet fell forward and hit the ladder she was standing on causing her to fall to the floor. The plaintiff asserts that the incident resulted in serious injuries.
The defendant is accused of failing to inspect and maintain the area, failing to warn of the dangerous condition, failing to properly supervise students, failing to safely maintain the filing area, creating and maintaining a dangerous condition and allowing a dangerous condition to exist.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, permanent damage, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and economic damages.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
