Comet Inn bar sued after patron allegedly dies due to injuries from armed robbery

2c004b0

GRETNA – The family of man who allegedly died due to injuries he received as a patron during the armed robbery of a bar is suing the establishment.

Georgiana Stevens and Gregory Parham filed suit against Johnny Silvey, The Comet Inn, Carolyn Walker, Ryan Walker, Kevin Walker, K.R.O. LLC, KRC Veterans Properties LLC and Scottsdale Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 8.

Stevens and Parham allege that on Sept. 5, 2012 their relative Haywood J. Parham Jr. was a patron at Comet Inn located at 2803 Jefferson Highway in Jefferson when he was beaten during the course of an armed robbery. The plaintiffs assert that when Haywood J. Parham Jr. died on April 8 it was largely due to the injuries he received in the incident. Stevens and Parham claim Comet Inn had previously been the scene of an armed robbery, but that the defendants did not take action to prevent a similar occurrence.

The defendant is accused of failing to provide a safe environment for business invitees, failing to provide any type of security which would have acted as a deterrent to armed robbery and failing to do what should have been done.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for wrongful death, loss of affection, loss of companionship, loss of society and funeral expenses.

Stevens and Parham is represented by attorney William A. Glennon III of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.

Case no. 737-233.
