GRETNA – A local hospital is suing one of its employees for being partially at fault for injuries that resulted in her receiving a workers’ compensation claim.

Jefferson Parish Hospital District Number Two, Parish of Jefferson State of Louisina and East Jefferson General Hospital filed suit against Carol Wedig and the City of Kenner in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 29.

East Jefferson General Hospital claims that Wedig, who was employed as a registered nurse, was working as a volunteer at a non-profit fundraiser for the Back to the Lake Foundation when she allegedly tripped and fell on damaged pavement, injuring her right hand, left hand and knee. The plaintiff alleges that due to the defendant’s accident it has paid her workers' compensation benefits, medical benefits, medical bill review fees and other benefits.

Wedig is accused of being at least partially responsible, if not wholly responsible, for her own injuries and should thus be responsible for part of the payment.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for monies expended in workers' compensation benefits.

East Jefferson General Hospital is represented by Charles O. Taylor of Metairie-based Chehardy, Sherman, Ellis, Murray, Recile, Griffith, Stakelum & Hayes LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.

Case no. 737-882.
