GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish homeowner is suing her property insurer for allegedly not fully covering damages as a result of Hurricane Isaac.

Alma Brule filed suit against ASI Lloyds in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 16.

Brule contends that her property was covered by insurance she purchased from ASI Lloyds when Hurricane Isaac struck southeast Louisiana on Aug. 29, 2012. The plaintiff alleges following the storm she submitted a claim against the policy for roof damage, water damage and damage to the exterior and interior of the home. Brule claims an adjuster provided by ASI Lloyds did not spend an adequate amount of time assessing the damage to her property before providing her with a payment in the amount of $1,900, which she alleges is much lower than her actual damages.

The plaintiff asserts that the defendant’s estimate was extremely undervalued and ignored damage.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract and violation of law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for diminution in value of property, repay and remediation expenses, amount due not previously paid, costs to hire investigative and engineering firms, consequential damages, mental anguish, loss of use, attorney’s fees, prejudgment interest and costs of litigation.
