NEW ORLEANS- The parents of an elementary student are suing a charter school and a teacher for allegedly attacking their child.

Eloise Trumble and Arnold Blunt filed suit against William J. Fischer Elementary School, the Recovery School, the Recovery School District-Algiers Charter School District, Lonte Nettles and their insurance companies in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

On Aug. 21, 2013 at Willliam J. Fischer Elementary School located at 1801 L.B. Landry Ave. in New Orleans, Trumble and Blunt claim that their son, Kevon Blunt, accidentally hit his teacher's knee with rubber band. Following this event, the plaintiffs assert that the teacher, defendant Lonte Nettles, attacked their son. Trumble and Blunt claim that the confrontation resulted in great bodily harm, mental anguish and embarrassment for their son.

The defendants are accused of failing to abide by professional guidelines when disciplining a student, failing to properly train teachers in the disciplining of a student, violating student rights and failing to report an accident to the proper authorities prior to taking action.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unknown amount in damages for medical expenses, mental anguish, court costs and attorney's fees.

Trumble and Blunt are represented by attorney David L. Coleman II.

The case has been assigned to District L Judge Kern A. Reese.

Case no. 2014-05165.
