GRETNA – Walgreens is being sued by a woman who claims her condition deteriorated after her medicine was lost as it was being dispensed and she had to wait 10 days to receive it.
Maxine Maiden filed suit against Walgreen Louisiana Co. Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 3.
Maiden contends that after she was discharged from a local hospital on Nov. 8, 2013, a prescription for prednisone was sent to the Walgreens pharmacy located at 9705 Jefferson Highway in River Ridge that she was to take to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. The plaintiff asserts that when she arrived at the defendant's location the medication had been lost and the defendants allegedly said they would call the hospital to get a new prescription, but that never happened. Maiden alleges she did not receive the prednisone prescription until Nov. 18, 2013 and due to the delay her condition deteriorated and she had to be hospitalized for three days and withstand several weeks of treatment until her condition normalized.
The defendant is accused of violation of state law, failing to properly dispense medication, failing to properly oversee employees, failing to provide adequate service, failing to communicate with physicians, failing to properly train employees and failing to properly supervise employees.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish and suffering and medical bills.
Maiden is represented by Myles Steib of Metairie-based Gardner & Steib.
The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
Case no. 739-997.
