Son files suit against numerous companies after father dies of mesothelioma

NEW ORLEANS – A man has filed a wrongful death suit against the City of New Orleans and numerous companies after his father contracted and died from mesothelioma.

Scott Laurent filed suit against City of New Orleans, Gentilly Racing Corp., Ford Motor Company, Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc., Daimler North America Corp., Volkswagon of America Inc., BMW of North America Inc., American Honda Motor Company Inc., General Electric Company, Anco Insulations Inc., The McCarty Corporation, Taylor-Seidenbach Inc., CBS Corp. and Foster-Wheeler LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 24.

The plaintiff claims his father worked for the defendants whose work area contained deadly amounts of asbestos and/or with the defendants' products that contained asbestos, and/or in the defendants' buildings that contained asbestos. Laurent claims his father worked for the City of New Orleans or buildings owned by the City beginning in 1958. The plaintiff alleges his father was exposed to asbestos and asbestos-containing products throughout his employment at the City’s brake tag station. Laurent also alleges his father was exposed to asbestos while employed by the Naval Reserves working on naval vessels.

The defendants are accused of exposing the plaintiff’s father to deadly amounts of asbestos fibers, asbestos dust and asbestos-containing products that led to the plaintiff’s father contracting mesothelioma and his eventual death.

The plaintiff is seeking an unknown amount in damages for the wrongful death of his father, significant pain, suffering and mental anguish.

Scott Laurent is represented by Kevin C. Schoenberger from the Law Office of Kevin C. Schoenberger in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
