Local hospital sued by woman allegedly injured in ambulance accident

GRETNA – A woman who claims she was injured in auto collision with an ambulance is suing. 

Sarah Chighizola filed suit against East Jefferson General Hospital, Tramaine L. Eugene and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 22.

Chighizola asserts that on July 25, 2013 she was in her car at the intersection U.S. Highway 90 and LA 611-4 when Eugene, who was driving an ambulance collided with her vehicle.  

The defendant is accused of failing to properly apply the vehicle’s brakes, failing to keep proper control, operating the vehicle in a careless manner, failing to see what should have been seen or heard, failing to exercise due care and caution, failing to exercise reasonable vigilance, failing to obey the rules of emergency vehicles, failing to come to stop at a light and failing to do anything to avoid the accident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, property damage, loss of use of vehicle, storage fees and medical expenses.

Chighizola is represented by attorney Kevin A. Rieth of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
