GRETNA – A recycling company is suing one of its cashiers claiming she stole $21,000 from her cash drawer and a safe on the premises over a seven month period.
Southern Recycling LLC filed suit against Ashley Guidry in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 25.
The plaintiff asserts that in October 2010 Guidry was hired as a cashier at its West Bank facility located at 50 Griffin Road in Westwego and that as part of her duties she was to order and count money from the bank, paying customers, printing end of the day reports and balancing the cash drawer. Southern Recycling contends that on Jan. 6 the plaintiff took a day off and her replacement noticed that $19,600 in cash was missing from the safe.
The plaintiff claims Guidry was the only one with access to the safe and that she had been previously warned after her cash register was found to be short $2,000 on May 15, 2013. Southern Recycling alleges that from May 15, 2013 until Jan. 6 Guidry took $21,000 and that she was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for the alleged theft.
The defendant is accused of fraud, theft and converting funds for her own personal use.
Damages in the amount of $21,000 are sought by the plaintiff.
Southern Recycling is represented by Laura F. Ashley of New Orleans-based Jones Walker.
The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
