Woman sues Jefferson Parish property owner after fall allegedly causes severe knee injuries

Dscn1082

GRETNA – A woman is suing a Jefferson Parish property owner after she allegedly received severe injuries when she stepped in a hole on the property.

Ernestine Riley filed suit against Gloria Handy in the 24 Judicial District Court.

Riley claims that on or about July 19, 2013 she purchased a large china cabinet and was assisted by the defendant in moving the cabinet out of 4054 W. Loyola Ave. in Kenner when the petitioner stepped into a hole on the ground causing the china cabinet to fall and land on her person causing injury. The plaintiff contends she suffered severe injures to her knee as a result of the accident.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep a proper look out or warn of a hole in the ground, failing to provide a safe passage of ingress or egress, neglecting to screen the residence prior to inviting guess across her property.

The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment in life, decline of future income, disabilities and vestigial impairment.

Riley is represented by Keith A. Conley of the New Orleans-based Brandner Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
Case no. 740-444.
