NEW ORLEANS – The Royal Sonesta Hotel is being sued for funds allegedly owed to Louisiana's unemployment compensation program.
The State of Louisiana, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Office of Employment Administration and UI Tax Manager J. Ricky Masaracchia filed suit against Sonesta International Hotels Corp. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 7.
According to the petition, Sonesta owes the Workforce Commission $49,037 in addition to subsequent unpaid contributions and accrued statutory interest and penalties.
Masaracchia asserts that he has complied with the notice provision in Louisiana tax code LSA-R.S. 23:1725, and contests that the lien against Sonesta is now final and enforceable.
The plaintiffs are seeking to have the assessment and lien made executory, and request that any court costs or fees be paid by the defendant.
The State of Louisiana, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Office of Employment Administration, and UI Tax Manager J. Ricky Masaracchia are represented by attorney Karl M. Hansen Jr.
The case has been assigned to District L Chief Judge Kern A. Reese.
Case no. 2014-07740.
