Swimming pool maintenance company sued for allegedly destroying pool

GRETNA – A homeowner is suing a local pool maintenance company for $100,000 after it allegedly destroyed her pool while replastering it.

Sheila Guffey filed suit against Pool and Spa Center of New Orleans LLC, Lonnie Young, Junior’s Pool Plastering and Hallmark Specialty Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 25.

Guffey contends that she contracted Junior’s Pool Plastering to replaster the pool at her home located at 3113 Mary Drive in Marrero. The plaintiff asserts that during the replastering that the entire pool came out of the ground which destroyed the pool, equipment and the decking surrounding it. Guffey claims that due to the incident the pool and attached plumbing will have to be replaced.

The defendant is accused of property damage.

Damages in the amount of $100,000 is sought to replace the pool plus $500 in water costs.

Guffey is represented by attorney Max M. Chotto of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 741-649.
