NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that a Pontiac vehicle she owned malfunctioned by deploying the airbags suddenly and without warning, causing serious injury.
Patricia Collins filed suit against General Motors LLC, General Motors Corporation and Ibrahim's Autoplex LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Dec. 31, 2014.
The plaintiff asserts that she purchased a 2005 Pontiac Grand GT at Ibrahim's Autoplex in January 2012. She claims that as she was driving her vehicle in a safe and prudent manner on Jan. 3, 2014, the "Supplemental Inflatable Restraint" system malfunctioned and deployed the airbags, causing personal damages including a serious wrist injury.
The defendant is accused of designing and manufacturing the SIR that was in the accident vehicle and being negligent in failing to inform consumers that the SIR is defective and may deploy the airbags in the absence of a collision and without warning. The plaintiff is also suing Ibrahim's Autoplex LLC, for selling allegedly defective products.
She seeks an unspecified amount in personal damages for her serious and permanent injuries, pain and suffering, medical bills, loss of income and permanent disability.
The plaintiff is represented by attorney Michele Gaudin of New Orleans.
This case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
