Planet Fitness faces lawsuit brought by client alleging injury in course of workout

GRETNA – A fitness club is being sued by a member who claims she was  injured when a step box she was using fell over, causing her to fall to the floor.

Teresa L. Hall, and husband Wesley, filed suit against Planet LA LLC, Planet Fitness, Planet LA–Gretna LLC and Lloyd’s London in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 4.

Hall asserts she was working out at the Planet Fitness located at 50 Westbank Expressway in Gretna on Feb. 5, 2014 and was participating in step circuit training when the step box and handrail she was using overturned and she fell to the floor. The plaintiff claims she received severe injuries to her neck, shoulder, back, elbow, knee and ankle in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to protect, failing to inspect the premises, failing to discover an unreasonably dangerous condition, failing to properly secure the box, falcon to provide reasonably safe and proper equipment and not waring of the danger.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, permanent injuries, mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of earning capacity, loss of earning capacity, psychological distress, loss of enjoyment of life and inconvenience.

Hall is represented by Jeffery R. Brothers of the Gretna-based Colvin Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
