GRETNA – Lakeside Mall and a security company are being sued by two shoppers who allege they were confronted by security guards who allegedly injured them in a physical attack.

Charles Byrd and Lotttie Badgers filed suit against Vinson Guard Security Inc., Greater Lakeside Causeway Corp., Greater Lakeside Corp. and Chubb Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 25.

Byrd and Badgers claim they were shopping at the Lakeside Shopping Center located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie on July 11, 2014 when they were confronted by several security guards employed by Vinson Guard Security Inc. The plaintiffs allege the conflict escalated into a physical attack and one or more of the guards injured them by striking each of them.

Byrd contends his injuries from the incident were so severe that he was admitted to a local hospital for treatment for a traumatic brain injury. Badgers asserts she suffered injuries to her neck, back, shoulders and arm in the incident.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, physical suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and impaired earning capacity.

Byrd and Badgers are represented by Matthew D. Hemmer of New Orleans-based Morris Bart LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 747-173.
