NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing the Louisiana Cash Advance company claiming she was injured after being locked inside the store and assaulted.
Sheila Dorsey, and husband Derrick, filed suit against Louisiana Cash Advance, PH Financial Services, Myra Smith and Shavonda Jacques in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on March 12.
The plaintiffs claim that on May 1, 2014, they entered the Louisiana Cash Advance branch on North Claiborne Ave. in New Orleans in order to dispute charges on Dorsey's account. Allegedly, upon entering the premises the plaintiff became involved in a dispute with two employees of the business which escalated into a physical altercation. The plaintiffs claim that the employees came around the counter and began to repeatedly assault and batter Sheila Dorsey resulting in serious personal injury. Additionally, she claims that they locked the doors, leaving her husband unable to come to her aid during the assault.
The defendant employees are accused of assault, battery and inflicting emotional distress. Louisiana Cash Advance is also accused of failing to properly train and supervise employees and hiring employees who pose a physical danger to patrons of the business.
The plaintiffs seek an unspecified amount in damages for mental anguish, emotional distress, medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life.
The plaintiff is represented by Kenny M. Charbonnet and James S. Rees IV of New Orleans-based Charbonnet Law Firm LLC.
This case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
