Man files lawsuit after being denied a taxicab permit

Taxi

NEW ORLEANS – A man claims he was denied due process when he was not given a taxicab permit by the Department of Safety and Permits Taxicab and for Hire Vehicles Bureau.

Jonas Williams filed suit against Jared Munster, Director, and Karen Thibodeaux, Supervisor of the Department of Safety and Permits Taxicab and for Hire Vehicles Bureau, City of New Orleans State of Louisiana in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on April 7.

On Aug. 11, 2014, Wiliams says he began the process to apply for a non-emergency medical permit and a driver permit in order to become a taxicab driver in the city of New Orleans. He claims he was told to fill out a driver/operator/tour guide’s new permit requirement sheet and a hire operator permit application.

The petitioner contends that on Jan. 27, 2015, he was denied both permits by the defendants, Munster and Thibodeaux. The plaintiff further claims he passed all the necessary tests and was never informed of any code violations he committed. Williams states the defendants made this executive decision without due process, and should therefore give him another opportunity by the Department of Safety and Permits Taxicab and for Hire Vehicles Bureau.

The plaintiff is represented by himself.

The case has been assigned to Div. I Judge Piper D. Griffin.

Case no. 2015-03205.
