West Jefferson Medical Center sued over alleged ambulance accident

GRETNA – A local hospital and an ambulance driver are being sued after alleged property damage and injuries to a motorist when an ambulance collided with her car.

Kelly Clay filed suit against Joshua Baumann, Jefferson Parish Hospital District No. 1 and West Jefferson Medical Center in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 22.

Clay claims she was driving near lapalco Blvd. when Baumann, driving an ambulance owned by West Jefferson Medical Center, ran a stoplight and collided with her. The plaintiff alleges that she suffered serious personal injuries in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain control of vehicle, failing to keep a proper lookout, driving in a reckless and careless manner, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to keep proper distance between vehicles and failing to obey traffic signals.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, property damage and economic damages.

Clay is represented by attorney Pierre F. Gaudin of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
