Man sued for allegedly not repaying $9K loan

GRETNA – A local lender is suing a man who allegedly refuses to repay a small loan.

Springleaf Financial Services of Louisiana Inc. filed suit against John J. Cotton in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 9.

Springleaf claims that on Dec. 11, 2014 it loaned Cotton $7,506.03 to be repaid over 47 monthly installments. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant only made the first payment on Jan. 15, 2015, but then missed the Feb. 15 payment and all payments since. Springleaf contends Cotton owes $9,273.13 as of June 4.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount $9,273.13 are sought by the plaintiff.

Springleaf is represented by Tony Dooley of New orleans-based The Dooley Law Office LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

Case no. 750-466.
