French Riviera Fitness sued after bike seat allegedly collapses beneath woman

GRETNA – A woman is suing a fitness center claiming she was injured after the  seat on her stationary bike collapsed.

Antoinette Harris filed suit against French Riviera Health Spa Inc., French Riviera Fitness, General Insurance Company of America and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 1.

Harris alleges that on July 7, 2014 she was at the French Riviera Health Spa located at 655 Behrman Highway in Jefferson Parish where she was sitting on a stationary bike seat. The plaintiff contends the seat collapsed underneath her and she was severely injured as a result.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain its equipment in safe working order, failing to properly maintain and inspect equipment and failing to warn of danger.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and lost wages.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
