Jefferson Parish man files suit after hit-and-run

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish man has filed suit against a car rental company and one of its employees after being rear-ended at a red light in Orleans Parish.

Paul E. Santiago of Jefferson Parish, has filed a lawsuit against The Hertz Corporation, Whitney Wilson, “John Doe” and their insurers following an accident involving the plaintiff in Orleans Parish.

On Nov. 20, 2014 Santiago alleges that he was rear-ended by defendant “John Doe” while stopped at a red light on Chef Menteur Highway. According to the petition, “John Doe” the fled the scene in an automobile that Hertz rented to Wilson.

The plaintiff claims that Wilson is negligent by letting Doe operate the vehicle recklessly and negligently and that Hertz is liable as Wilson's employer.

The plaintiff seeks damages for medical expenses, mental and physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, lost wages and earning capacity, inconvenience and damages and diminution in value to vehicle.

Santiago is represented by Anthony D. Irpino and Carlos Ramirez with the New Orleans-based Irpino Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.

Case No. 2015-5784.
