Walmart sued over alleged negligence following accident in store

A Morgan City woman is suing Walmart over negligence allegations contributing to an accident she experienced in one of its stores.

Eileen Bienvenu filed a complaint Sept. 11 in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Wal-Mart Louisiana LLC, alleging negligence and gross negligence.

On Sept. 11, 2014, the complaint states, Bienvenu was shopping in the Walmart Supercenter in Houma when she slipped on the floor and injured herself.

The complaint states Walmart was negligent in maintaining a defective, ruinous and hazardous condition of the building premises.

As a result of the accident, Bienvenu has suffered physical, mental, and emotional injury and pain, mental anguish, humiliation, and embarrassment, and has incurred medical expenses.

Bienvenu seeks actual, compensatory, statutory, and punitive damages, plus attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by DaShawn Hayes of the Hayes Law Firm PLC in New Orleans.
