GRETNA – A doctor is being sued for allegedly failing to order diagnostic tests to determine if a patient had a heart condition from which he later died.

Nicole Barbe, individually and on behalf of the estate of Jean Barbe, filed suit against Dr. David Snyder in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 17.

Nicole Barbe contends that on Feb. 7, 2012 Jean Barbe went to see Snyder, a cardiologist with complaints of heart problems that were consistent with a swollen heart and fluid surrounding his heart. The plaintiff asserts that despite Jean Barbe’s symptoms, Snyder failed to order an ultrasound test for diagnostics.

Barbe claims that on Feb. 13, 2012, Jean Barbe went to the emergency room at East Jefferson General Hospital where he was admitted and later died on Feb. 15, 2012 due to a heart attack. The plaintiff alleges Snyder did not properly treat Jean Barbe which in part led to his death.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for survival damages, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost cache of survival.

Barbe is represented by John D. Sileo of the New Olreans-based Law Office of John D. Sileo LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 751-715.
