Best Buy sued by woman who claims she broke her foot in slip on rocks

Bestbuy

GRETNA – An electronics store is being sued by a woman who claims she injured herself after slipping and falling on loose rocks on its sidewalk.

Elizabeth Land filed suit against Best Buy Co. Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 17.

Land asserts she was at the Best Buy located at 3780 in Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie and was walking on the sidewalk in front of the business when she stepped on a rock, her foot slipped form beneath her and she fell. The plaintiff claims that as she was falling she tried to catch herself and put pressure on her right foot and severely injured it.

Land alleges she told the security guard on duty about the incident and after she finished her shopping she told a cashier, but neither offered her any help. The plaintiff contends she later went to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a fractured foot.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly maintain the walkway, failing to ensure safe passage and failing to inspect the entryway.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, medical costs, loss of enjoyment of life and aggravation.

Land is represented by attorney L. Jay McCreary of Slidell.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.

Case no. 751-736.
