A seaman is suing his former employer over injuries he allegedly sustained aboard one of the company's vessels.

David A. Bell Sr. filed a lawsuit Sept. 28 in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against Galliano Marine Services, alleging negligence and un-seaworthiness.

On June 24, the complaint states, while employed by Galliano Marine Services aboard the M/V Jack Edwards, Bell suffered an accident that resulted in injuries to his back.

The suit alleges Galliano Marine Services was negligent in failing to provide a reasonably safe place to work, failing to properly train and supervise staff, creating and maintaining an un-seaworthy vessel, failing to provide minimum safety requirements, and failing to provide adequate equipment and personnel, among other negligence acts or omissions.

Bell seeks punitive damages and maintenance and cure, and, failing that, punitive and compensatory damages, plus attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorneys Timothy J. Young, Tammy D. Harris, Megan C. Misko and Daniel J. Poolson Jr. of The Young Firm in New Orleans.

U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana case number 2:15-cv-04819-JTM-MBN.
