A boat passenger sued the driver of a pontoon and its owner, a rental company, for injuries sustained as a result of a collision on the Tchefuncte River that were allegedly the result of the pontoon operator's negligence.

Gary S. Leggitt filed suit on Oct. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Paul Hubert Jr. and Nautical Options LLC, doing business as Freedom Boat Club of Madisonville, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 1, Leggitt was a passenger on a homemade lake skiff when it collided with a pontoon boat operated by defendant Hubert and owned by Nautical Options LLC, a boat rental firm, while the defendant was unlawfully and improperly operating while attempting to cross the Tchefuncte River.

The plaintiff suffered a collapsed left lung, fractured ribs and a lacerated scalp as a result of the collision and is seeking unspecified money damages, plus costs of litigation.

James A. Dukes, Albert A. Bensaat and Nicholas Z. Abbott, all of Hammond, Louisiana, represents the plaintiff.
