NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana boat pilot says the owners of a vessel he was assigned to helm in 2014 is negligent for foot injuries he suffered on the job.
Joey Cargol filed a lawsuit Dec. 2 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Fortune Ocean Ship Management Company Ltd. and the marine vessel Orient Rise, alleging liability for personal injury.
As a port pilot and member of the Crescent River Port Pilots’ Association, Cargol was assigned to pilot the Orient Rise on Nov. 3, 2014, for a voyage from the Mississippi River in New Orleans to the mouth of the river. According to the complaint, Cargol’s foot was crushed by the gangway as he attempted to board the vessel, ruining his ankle and connective joints, tissues, muscles and nerves.
Cargol seeks compensatory damages for his pain and suffering, as well as for his permanent residual disability, loss of income and reduced earning capacity. He is represented by attorneys Paul M.
