NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana company says Kirby Inland Marine is liable for damages caused by a boat collision.
Bayou Fleet Inc. filed a lawsuit Dec. 15 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Kirby Inland Marine LP, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, on April 15 Kirby’s vessel, the marine vessel Lucia, was towing a barge across the Mississippi River and collided with another boat, Bayou Fleet's marine vessel Bayou Piquant. The suit says repairs cost more than $45,000, the Bayou Piquant lost an additional $23,000 of revenue during the six days it was out of commission for repairs, and two workers have filed personal injury claims for which it is responsible.
Bayou Fleet seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus interest and litigation costs. It is represented by attorneys Anthony J. Staines and Corey P. Parenton of the Metairie firm Staines & Eppling.
