NEW ORLEANS – A pediatrics resident is suing Louisiana State University’s Health Sciences Center, claiming employment discrimination.
Dr. Kristina Mire filed a lawsuit Dec. 21 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, Mire, a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, began working in July 2006 at the LSU Health Sciences Center in the pediatrics department, training at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. The suit says she successfully battled attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and depression during a leave of absence in 2008, but was put on a heavy rotation of cases upon her return, leading to a relapse. Facing charges of unprofessional behavior and lack of work ethic, the claim states that a competency hearing was held, resulting in Mire’s suspension in 2008.
Mire seeks compensatory and punitive damages, including back pay, reinstatement, legal interest and litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Dona J. Dew and Bridget D. Nalley of Nalley and Dew in Metairie.
