NEW ORLEANS – A Covington woman says access for her and other wheelchair users is illegally restricted at Sunshine Plaza in St. Tammany Parish.

Yadi Mark filed a lawsuit Jan. 19 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Sunshine Plaza Inc., claiming violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the handicapped parking spaces at the defendant's property lack appropriate access aisles, the access ramps are missing handrails, and the access aisles do not lead to curb cuts for wheelchair access. Mark says she lives nearby, but has difficulty accessing the property due to the alleged ADA violations.

Mark is seeking a court order to force the property owner to comply with federal regulations concerning handicapped access, plus reimbursement for litigation costs. She is represented by attorneys Andrew D. Bizer, Garret S. DeReus and Amanda K. Klevorn of the Bizer Law Firm in New Orleans.
