Steamship agency services firm alleges bulk carrier owes $87,000

Contract 03

NEW ORLEANS — An Alabama steamship agency services company is suing a Philippines bulk carrier, alleging it owes more than $87,000.

Norton Lilly International Inc. filed a lawsuit May 3 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against M/V Kinatsi and Kinatsi Maritime, alleging they did not pay their contractual obligations.

According to the complaint, on April 30, Norton Lilly issued an invoice for the $87,582.50 worth of necessaries to M/V Kinatsi during her call on the Mississippi River between April 25-May 3. To date, this outstanding and overdue invoice remains unpaid, the suit says.

Norton Lilly International seeks trial by jury, the principal amount of $87,582.50, together with pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, an order placing the vessel under the arrest, custody and control of the United States Marshals Service of the district, attorney fees, legal costs and such other relief the court deems proper. It is represented by attorneys Evans Martin McLeod and Adam N. Davis of Phelps Dunbar LLP in New Orleans.
